Raised in a small farming town in eastern Utah, artist Trent Gudmundsen spent his childhood wandering among vast fields and canyons, and was driven from an early age to record his impressions of life with his brushes and paint. By the time he was twelve, Gudmundsen already had a determination to make his life one of art. With little training or "book knowledge" he would bring his easel out into the pastures and hills near his house to paint whenever he got the chance. He was lucky enough to receive some guidance from landscape artist VaLoy Eaton, who introduced Trent to the works of Sargent, Zorn, Sorolla, Levitan and others. Although Trent found his artistic beginnings in the landscapes of the West, he is drawn to paint any subject that has the right "magic", and is accomplished at painting a variety of subjects. In 2003 Gudmundsen was selected for
inclusion in Southwest Art's "21 Under 31" article (Sept. 03
issue), marking his official entry into the art world as an emerging
artist. Also in 2003, Trent's painting "Eleven A.M." was chosen by juror
Kevin Macpherson for an "Award of Excellence" at the Oil Painters of
America National show in Taos. Trent's work has also been included
in such shows as Paint the Parks "Top 100" in 2007, Arts for
the Parks "Top 200" in 2004, "Windows to the Divine" Invitational in
Denver, and twice in the International Museum of Contemporary Masters
"Salon International". Gudmundsen's love of painting is only surpassed
by his love for his family, and their determination to serve God. |
